Tim Atack writes contemporary film/tv music as well as co-writing, recording and producing with Des’ree her multi- million selling albums and singles. He scored Ricky Gervais’ first Hollywood movie as writer/director/star, The Invention of Lying, which received great reviews in the US and UK and is now on general release, and Tim’s gone straight on to Ricky’s new feature Cemetery Junction after completing the UK feature Re-Uniting The Rubins for producer Jonathan Weissler. He composed the music for the BBC’s Roman’s Empire, Much Ado About Nothing; Krakatoa and The Quatermass Experiment; ITV’s Quite Ugly One Morning, starring James Nesbitt and the films Among Giants and Elephant Juice.

c-tim-atack-200.jpg In 2007 Tim scored the feature Wounded Knee for director Emma Burge and Hayhead Films. He wrote the music for the BBC’s spectacular production of Krakatoa – The Last Days, directed by Sam Miller, and Much Ado About Nothing, directed by Brian Percival, for the BBC’s contemporary ‘Shakespeare Retold’ series, produced by Diederick Santer. Recently finished Roman’s Empire for director Elliot Hegarty and BBC2. His other recent tv drama credits include ITV’s Quite Ugly One Morning, starring James Nesbitt, diected by Sam Miller for Clerkenwell Films; and the BBC’s live production of The Quatermass Experiment for which he provided a totally ‘live as it happens’ score for the re-make of this seminal cult work starring Jason Flemyng and David Tennant. His feature film credits include Among Giants (Kudos/Fox Searchlight), starring Pete Postlethwaite, Rachel Griffiths and Lennie James; and Elephant Juice (HAL/Miramax), starring Emmanuelle Beart and Daniel Lapaine. Both films were directed by Sam Miller.

The hit song Kissing You, which he co-wrote and produced with Des’ree, played an important musical thematic role throughout Baz Luhrmann’s cult 1997 movie Romeo & Juliet (20th Century Fox). In addition to being a featured song, an instrumental version was also used, as well as additional music for the famous balcony scene. The film premiered at no. 1 at the US box office and was a huge international hit. The soundtrack album has sold in excess of 5 million copies worldwide and was number 1 in many countries.

In the early 90′s he toured and recorded with Oleta Adams and Des’ree, becoming the latter’s Musical Director in 1995. He did three world tours with her in two years, promoting the I Ain’t Movin album, which sold 1.7 million copies worldwide. It was while they were performing in Australia that they co-wrote Kissing You which Baz Luhrmann heard and decided to feature in Romeo & Juliet.

In 1998 Tim wrote, recorded and produced with Des’ree her album Supernatural, sales of which now exceed 2 million copies. In the second half of 1998 Tim worked with Des’ree as keyboard player and Musical Director to promote this album on her world tour. He has also featured on keyboards on live dates with Michael Kamen and Bryan Ferry.
