DOWLING, Willie

Willie Dowling is a successful singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer, who first broke into scoring with tv comedy series for Armstrong & Miller, among others and then moved across into drama with BBC drama You’re Breaking Up. He recently completed the score for Carnaby Films’ Caught In The Act, directed by Matt Lipsey and has finished  Vexed, a new Greenlit series for the BBC2 airing August 15 for 3 weeks . Other credits include Life Of Riley for the BBC;   The Cup for Hartswood Films and Never Better, a tv series for World Productions/BBC2. In 2007 also completed the songs and score for the animated feature Snow White – The Sequel.

c-willie-dowling-200.jpgSnow White the Sequel , is an animated feature directed by Belgian animator and director Picha and written by Tony Hendra, the screenwriter of Spinal Tap and National Lampoon and produced by Steve Walsh.  His earlier tv credits include The Bill Specials for TalkBack/Thames; Catterick (BBC2/Channel X), the Reeves and Mortimer comedy/drama series; Twisted Tales/Spinechillers (BBC3); all five series of the multi award winning animated satire series 2DTV (ITV); Bognor Or Bust (4DTV/ITV); TLC (BBC2/Pozzitive), the hospital based sitcom; and the title song for Border Café (BBC1/Hartswood).

His other tv credits include 3 series of Monkey Dust (BBC3) The All Star Sketch Show (ITV/Pett Productions) starring Steve Coogan; Comic Relief (BBC1 ); I am Not An Animal (BBC1/Baby Cow); Lenny Henry In Pieces (BBC/Tiger Aspect); Boys and Girls (Channel 4/Ginger Productions); Dr Terrible’s House of Horror (BBC2/Baby Cow) starring Steve Coogan; the award winning series Human Remains (BBC2/Baby Cow); Big Train (BBC2); and 3 series of Armstrong and Miller (Channel 4/Absolutely). Youth and kid’s tv includes 3 series of Barking (Granada); The Mysti Show (BBC1) Too Many Gods, a drama short (ITV); Star (ITV/Tiger Aspect); and Meg and Mog, a 52 episode animation series based on the popular children’s books.

He co-wrote and arranged the songs and music for The Next Big Thing , with writers Pete Sinclair and Mark Burton, which opened in London in November 2005 at the New Players Theatre.

In the mid 1990′s Willie had 3 top 30 singles with his own band Honeycrack as well as several commercially successful albums. He has also written hit songs, produced, and toured with numerous other artists including The Wildhearts, The Quireboys, Mark Shaw, Andy Taylor, Midge Ure, Hot Chocolate, Sean McGowan, Mica Paris, Eva Rice and Janet Kay. His own bands include Honeycrack, Sugar Plum Fairies, The Celebrity Squares, and most recently Jackdaw Four whose second album, Bi-Polar Diversions was recently released to critical acclaim. A number of the songs written for these bands have been used as titles/credits music for the shows he has worked on.
