Background
The original business was started in 1975 after deciding to leave the majors and to become an indie. We originally traded as Olav Wyper Limited, managing recording artists, bands, record producers, songwriters, including Landscape, Trevor Walters, DiAnno, producer Richard Niles, Bob Howes, producer Steve Rowlands, classical guitarist Michael Conn, Les McKeown, producer Tony Taverner and others. Acted for a number of years as European consultant to Japan’s JVC Victor Records.
With Japanese promoter Hayashi International, organised Japanese presentations of a number of London shows; including Singing In The Rain, with the original West End cast led by Tommy Steele, and several tours by London City Ballet. Also partners with Kaz Utsunomiya in KO-Operation Limited, a Japanese management company representing Yuroshito Music, The Yellow Magic Orchestra, Riyuchi Sakamoto, Akkiko Yano, Stomu Yamashta, Ippudo, The Mods Newsbeats etc.
By 1993 the business was already established as a leading composer management company and we changed the name to Soundtrack Music Associates Limited and in 1997 opened Soundtrack Music Associates LLC in Los Angeles in partnership with Tony Smith’s Hit & Run Music Group.
The change to SMA Talent Limited in 2003 came as a result of the expansion into the management of screenwriters and directors, although composers remain the company’s core business.
In 2004 we moved office and home to Suffolk and with modern communications systems in place, being 90 mins from London by train is not a problem. We are in London for meetings on a weekly basis as required.
