Following the critical success of Ben Wheatley’s 2011 ‘Kill List’, Jim Williams has recently completed the score for Ben’s latest film ‘Sighteers’ for Big Talk Productions. The film has attracted feverish industry buzz and is to have a special screening in The Director’s Fortnight at Cannes.

DEAN VALENTINE’S MUSIC ON PROMETHEUS TRAILER

Dean’s music is featured on the current trailer for Ridley Scott’s new sci-fi thriller Prometheus which is slated for release in June. Stars include Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Charlize and Noomi Rapace. He is currently scoring ‘Tales of Friendship’ a new tv series for Disney.

JOHN ALTMAN AND THE TITANIC ANNIVERSARY

Sony Records has included John’s cd of the music played by the ship’s band on a new 4 cd collector’s anniversary edition of the music from the James Cameron’s acclaimed movie Titanic. The period music, arranged and produced by John is performed by I Salonist and is available for the first time in full length versions. He has also written the detailed sleeve notes.

John is also the Music Director on BBC 2′s 90 mins tv special Titanic: A Commemoration in Music and Film to be shown at 8.30 pm on Saturday April 14. The live event takes place in The Titanic Quarter in Belfast’s shipyard where the Titanic was built. John has arranged much of the music for the international stars appearing, conducts the orchestra and has written linking music.

PORTISHEAD’S GEOFF BARROW AND SMA’S BEN SALISBURY DROKK ALBUM RELEASED MAY

Both Bristol based, Geoff and Ben have been friends for 10 years and the pair have collaborated on several releases by ‘alternative’ bands signed to Geoff’s Invada label. DROKK is their first major Invada co-writing collaboration and is inspired by the Judge Dredd comic book series and is an imaginary vision of the character’s hometown Mega City One. Geoff and Ben are performing extracts from DROKK on May 16 at Obital Comics, 8 Great Newport Street London WC2H 7JA from 6.30 pm – admission free.

Most of the tracks were created on a 1975 Oberhiem 2 Voice Synthesizer – extremely sparse throughout, the album features little more than this solitary keyboard alongside some digitally manipulated and time-stretched performances of acoustic instruments. Begun in late 2010 the project took more than 6 months to complete because of Geoff’s ongoing Portishead commitments and Ben’s continuing film and tv scoring work.

The acclaimed Oscar Nominated British writer/director Michael Radford established his international reputation as the writer and director of Nineteen Eight-Four (Umbrella-Rosenblum Films/Virgin Films), starring John Hurt and Richard Burton in his final role. He went on to write and direct the Oscar winning Il Postino (Cecchi Gori Films) for which Michael was Nominated for Best Director and Best Screenwriter and the film was Nominated for Best Picture – altogether the film was Nominated in five categories. He also won the BAFTA for Best Director and Best Film not in the English Language, as well another 35 international awards. His films have won over 60 major international festival prizes.

In 2004 he directed Al Pacino in The Merchant of Venice (Movision Entertainment), which premiered at The Venice Film Festival in 2004. They are currently planning their second Shakespeare collaboration with Michael’s adaptation of King Lear.

Last year he wrote and directed the feature documentary Michel Petrucciani (Les Films d’Ici), the legendary French jazz pianist who died in New York in 1999. His other films include La Mula, a Spanish language follow up to Il Postino, which has yet to complete post production; Flawless (Magnolia Pictures), starring Demi Moore and Michael Caine. He was one eight major directors on Ten Minutes Older (Odyssey Films), a collection of short films directed by, among others, his cinematic heroes Bernando Bertolucci and Jan Luc Godard – Michael’s contribution was Addicted To The Stars, a sci-fi film starring Daniel Craig.

Other film credits include Dancing At The Blue Iguana (Moonstone Entertainment), starring Daryl Hannah; B. Monkey (Miramax Films), starring Rupert Everett, Jared Harris and Jonathan Rhys Meyers; White Mischief (Nelson Entertainment), with Greta Scacchi, Charles Dance and John Hurt; and his directorial debut feature, the much praised Another Time, Another Place (Channel Four Films) which won fifteen major festival prizes around the world.

Michael started his directing career at the BBC on documentaries including The Last Stronghold of the Pure Gospel; The Madonna and the Volcano, which won Grand Prix Nyon in 1976; and then his first feature film for BBC Scotland, The White Bird Passes. He also directed the much lauded cinema documentary Van Morrison in Ireland (Angle Films).

He was born in New Delhi, India, and grew up mainly in the Middle East where his father served in the British Army. He was educated at Bedford School and Worcester College, Oxford. After a spell teaching he was one of the first 25 students to study at The National Film School when it opened in 1971. He has homes in London and Los Angeles and is fluent in French, Spanish and Italian and directs in all three languages.

PHIL STAGG’S ‘WODEHOUSE’S WAR’ TO BE DIRECTED BY MICHAEL RADFORD

Phil Stagg’s screenplay,Wodehouse’s War, is to be directed by Michael Radford, the award winning director of Il Postino.

The film will shoot next year in Germany, France and the UK and is produced by Richard Johns and Rupert Jeremy for Corona Pictures and Olav Wyper for SMA Talent.

Meanwhile Phil is working on the screenplay of The Club 1948, a thriller set during the Berlin airlift, for the Munich based ART-OKO Film GmbH.
