<p>Most of the tracks were created on a 1975 Oberhiem 2 Voice Synthesizer &#8211; extremely sparse throughout, the album features little more than this solitary keyboard alongside some digitally manipulated and time-stretched performances of acoustic instruments. Begun in late 2010 the project took more than 6 months to complete because of Geoff&#8217;s ongoing Portishead commitments and Ben&#8217;s continuing film and tv scoring work.</p>

<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p>Michael started his directing career at the BBC on documentaries including <strong>The Last Stronghold of the Pure Gospel</strong>; <strong>The Madonna and the Volcano, </strong>which won Grand Prix Nyon in 1976; and then his first feature film for BBC Scotland, <strong>The</strong> <strong>White Bird Passes</strong>. He also directed the much lauded cinema documentary <strong>Van Morrison in Ireland</strong> (Angle Films).</p>
<p>He was born in New Delhi, India, and grew up mainly in the Middle East where his father served in the British Army. He was educated at Bedford School and Worcester College, Oxford. After a spell teaching he was one of the first 25 students to study at The National Film School when it opened in 1971. He has homes in London and Los Angeles and is fluent in French, Spanish and Italian and directs in all three languages.</p>

<p>Says Olav Wyper, CEO of SMA Talent, “I have long been an admirer of Michael’s work right back to ANOTHER TIME, ANOTHER PLACE and IL POSTINO was a landmark movie both for him and the industry &#8211; remaining the top grossing foreign language film from 1996 until very recently. NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR and Al Pacino’s THE MERCHANT OF VENICE are also among his more celebrated achievements as writer and director. He is an immense talent and we are very excited about working with him and further developing his international career.“</p>
<p>He is currently writing a comedy, THE PERFECT EQUATION, for Gaumont, which he will direct; he is attached to direct WODEHOUSE’S WAR for Corona Pictures/SMA; and planning KING LEAR, the second of his Al Pacino Shakespeare projects.</p>
